Estimate doubles for jobless losing benefits Sept. 1
An estimated 143,000 unemployed workers in California will exhaust their jobless benefits by Sept. 1…
That's more than double the 61,906 state officials estimated a month ago.
If Congress does not approve a fourth extension in benefits, EDD projects that 264,000 Californians will be kicked off the unemployment rolls by the end of the year.
Congress, however, went into recess this month so no action can be taken until at least September.
And not everyone agrees that another extension is in order. A 13-week extension would give California workers 92 weeks of unemployment benefits. Critics contend that an extension would only encourage workers to stay on unemployment rather than take any job available.

If lost jobless benefit estimates doubled in California in one month, what about North Carolina?
