Corruption Hotline

Former North Carolina state auditor Les Merritt and a partner

have launched a Web-based hot line for citizens

to report allegations of public corruption

The nonprofit Foundation for Ethics in Public Service

www.reportpubliccorruption.org

“has already received a significant number of tips,” says Merritt

Once a tip comes in, Merritt and his partner

former FBI agent

and North Carolina Ethics Commission worker Frank L. Perry

will review the facts to determine whether the allegations have merit

Merritt says, the “vetted” information

will be turned over to investigative reporters

and/or appropriate governmental agencies

“Government doesn’t do a good job investigating itself,” he adds

“So we think there is a definite need for this”
