The candidates’ ideas differed the most on ...the city’s loan of $400,000 for improvements to an oft-flooded apartment building, and where economic development should be focused.

Vaughan said the decision made in August to loan $400,000 to a developer for repairs to Ashley Creek Apartments was a mistake.

“To give money to a building that we know is going to flood is spending good money after bad,” Vaughan said.

She said the decision did not make sense.

But, Perkins argued during Monday night’s debate that the decision wasn’t about money.
