Just spoke with Greensboro City Council Member Tony Wilkins on Skip Alston's Bessemer Center Shopping Center Deal

Tony, Nancy Vaughan and Zack met with Skip in private before the meeting/vote.

Tony is adamant that the $2,000,000 the city is asking for from the developers be produced before the deal can go forward.

We discussed the fact that as Tony voted yes for Skip's developers, he has the opportunity to re-bring up the issue.

From the News & Record's Kelly Poe, who I spoke with this morning;

"The city of Greensboro has asked the developers of the rundown Bessemer Shopping Center on Phillips Avenue to front the $2 million they have promised before giving them a $2 million loan for renovations, said former Guilford County Commissioner Melvin “Skip” Alston, who represents the developers.

...Alston said he will present the changes to his investors next week when they return from being out of the country.

...Alston said it makes more sense for the city to front the money first because of the breakdown of the budget.

These expenses should all be taken care of before the developer’s expenses, which include restaurant equipment, interior improvements and furniture, Alston said."

Oh, sure. Alston would want the city to fron their promised millions so he can skim his commission off the top ("Alston said it makes more sense for the city to front the money first because of the breakdown of the budget"). What breakdown of the budget could he be talking about and how would this so-called breakdown affect him or the deal?
