...Perdue proposed a one-year extension of the time that government regulators must wait before they go into lobbying or to work for the people they used to regulate.
She also wants governors to have the statutory authority to fire appointees to state boards who don't attend meetings, who have been indicted or who fail to cooperate with an investigation.
She wants the law to allow for the revocation of any state pension public officials may be owed if they are convicted of felonies related to their jobs.
She also wants more disclosure information for the 4,000 people serving on boards and commissions.
State Republicans are calling for adjustments to state-personnel laws that they say will expose patronage and misconduct. The changes would open more personnel records to public view.
The GOP also endorsed Perdue's ideas.
There are other ideas floating around, many proposed by a bipartisan coalition for cleaner government. Their proposals include a ban on campaign contributions from state contractors, better reporting of how campaign money is raised, including a listing of the people who bundle contributions for candidates, and a ban on the solicitation by office-holders of charitable contributions from lobbyists...
