Would a business looking to relocate high paying jobs prefer a city
that supports clean elections and a level commercial playing field, or
a community that allows some perpetually entrenched business interests
receiving taxpayer money to fund political campaigns?
The art of government
consists of taking as much money as possible from one party of citizens
I, and I'd imagine most Greensboro voters, are looking for candidates who have answers. Questions are the easy part and not at all enlightening of your candidacy.
At least answer the many questions you pose to us yourself so we can get a feel for your positions. Please.
I think if we can pass Campaign Ethics Reforms and kept our overall debt and taxes relatively low, Greensboro could become a magnet for companies looking to relocate.
"Relatively low" is, well, a relative term. I can only infer that you believe our debt and taxes are too high for Greensboro to "become a magnet for companies looking to relocate".
So, how do you see Greensboro stacking up in regard to debt and tax load as compared to our competition?
Which of the upcoming bond offerings - that the voters approved - should the council not issue to keep our debt "relatively low"?
Also.. the current council is considering the issuance of some of the City's open bond capacity through the utilization of 2/3rds bonds. Where do you stand on this?
I heard at the last City Council Meeting that Greensboro has the highest tax rate of the 10 most populated citys in North Carolina.
But before we change subjects, the question of the post is if we should prohibit candidates and elected officials from accepting campaign contributions from those with conflicts of interests.
What are your thoughts on banning donations by leading members of organizations receiving taxpayer money, and/or developers, contractors or their lawyers or agents, for 12 months before and after doing business with Greensboro and Guilford County’s governments?
Past Chair. I rolled off the Commission a few months ago after serving for five years.
"I heard..." And I heard that Obama is Hitler incarnate. You might consider finding the facts on this one, George. Not saying what you heard might not be true, but "I heard..." is not very Councilman-like.
My thoughts on your question: It would be unconstitutional as you describe.
Greenburgh NY, San Antonio Texas and Loudoun County Virginia have similar Conflict of Interest Laws. I believe where there is a possible Quid Pro Quo involved the subject surpasses free speech rights and lands on what communities believe should be ethical or not.
So, do you believe donating $4,000 to the political campaign of an elected official who then votes to give your company taxpayer dollars ethical?
On the bonds, I believe we are collectively ignoring the severness of the country's economic situation by borrowing money from our children to spend on what we don't currently need. Want should be reserved for times when revenues arn't falling, otherwize, we may drive the car which is Greensboro, NC, off a fiscal cliff without even knowing it untill it's too late.

David, are you the Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission?

My questions on the bonds still stand.
Thanks for writing back David,
