Nancy Vaughn on Ethics Pledge

Nancy Vaughn on Ethics Pledge

On March 17, this City Council passed a resolution in support of expanding the State Government Ethics Act to local elected officials. It read, in part, that “local government officials should be subject to the same high standards of conduct and reporting requirements that apply to State government officials.”

…I am troubled that sitting council members who voted for this resolution are giving lip service to accountability and transparency but have not followed through (with the exception of Trudy Wade, who posted a financial disclosure report).

…This is just one small step the council can take to help restore trust and confidence. I pledge to support a policy that will make public records more accessible and to institute guidelines to foster transparency and accountability.

George Hartzman Post, September 13, 2009:  If Greensboro’s City Council adopted a resolution to extend North Carolina’s Ethics Act to Municipal officials, why has only one councilmember released the state Ethics Commission 2009 Statement of Economic Interest?
