How to prioritize incumbents and insiders, and minimize unelected, unknown candidates, by the Greensboro News & Record

"The word for Greensboro’s election season is primaries.

Enough candidates filed — 26 in all — to force primary elections in every race except District 2. The primary date is Oct. 8; the general election is Nov. 5.

The most crowded field is in the contest for three at-large seats — nine candidates. The primary will cut that number to six.

Former Mayor Yvonne Johnson is running for re-election to her at-large seat. Former Mayor Bill Knight is running in District 4.

Current Mayor Robbie Perkins faces two challengers, including Councilwoman Nancy Vaughan.

It should be a lively and fast-moving campaign season."
