Zack Matheny Flip Flops to Run for Congress

"The City Council approved, by a 5-to-4 vote, a $42,000 incentive for MWI Veterinary Supply Inc., to place a wholesale distribution center for vet supplies at 6105 Corporate Park Dr.

The company met only one of the three city criteria for incentive grants: It plans to hire 47 people, more than the requirement for 20 new jobs.

Criteria cnver stopped Zack from advocating for incentives before
on multiples of incentive requests.

MWI Veterinary Supply fell short on the other two requirements. It plans $3.1 million in capital investment, below the $7 million minimum, and it plans to offer an average starting wage of $27,000, below the county average wage.

Mayor Nancy Vaughan and Councilmembers Yvonne Johnson, Mike Barber, Jamal Fox and Nancy Hoffmann voted for the grant. Councilmembers Marikay Abuzuaiter, Sharon Hightower, Zack Matheny and Tony Wilkins voted against it.

Matheny, demonstrating a newfound fiscal conservatism when it comes to economic incentive grants, said he couldn’t believe a company wouldn’t come to Greensboro for $42,000.

...Matheny’s rightward drift may have something to do with his run for the US House seat for the North Carolina 6th Congressional District...

Wilkins, asked if he had a new voting buddy in Matheny, said, “At least until the primary.”
